Pict.01 – Sand tile with a 120# paper and remove dust. Apply 2 coats of gesso and let dry.

Pict.02 – Cut print from paper code ACR009, relax into water for a few minutes and absorb the excess of water with absorbent paper, then glue it directly in the centre of tile. Relaxing paper into the water will help you to avoid air bubbles: apply glue on surface then apply relaxed paper and use a large brush to help eliminating air bubbles or wrinkles.

Pict.03 – Let print dry and protect it with a few coats of water base varnish, then use a spatula to surround print completely with sand plaster. Apply plaster over the print’s borders, so to cover the cut.

Pict.04 – Use the acrylic colors ochre, burnt umber, terracotta, sienna and gold to soften the print’s borders. Start with the lighter, and then apply darker tones.

Pict.05 – Recover some of the print’s details like shown on picture.

Pict.06 – That’s the way your tile will appear after finished pictorial details.

Pict.07 – Apply several coats of water base varnish to protect work.

Pict.08 – Use gold paste to design a frame on the top and the base of the tile, and let dry.

Pict.09 – Apply gold leaf glue on the frames, wait for the necessary time, then apply gold foil using a light fingers pressure.

Pict.10 – Remove the excess of gold foil with a soft brush, then isolate work with French polish.

Pict.11 – Apply over the tile some bitumen to give it an ancient aspect and let dry.
